Eastwards and around its axis

Explanation:

The earth ROTATES on its own axis and from west to east. This is why the sun seems to rise in the east and set in the west within the equatorial region. Earth's rotation causes days and nights. It takes 24 hours for the earth to make one rotation.

The earth REVOLVES around the sun  and it takes 365 days for one revolution.  Earth's revolution causes seasons.
