In 1905, Russian marched to Saint Petersburg to demand reforms, but soldiers fired on the crowd. This event is called "Bloody Sunday." The tsar established a legislature, called the Duma, which had no real power. In addition, the people resented the influence of Rasputin, a  peasant faith healer who claimed to be able to heal Prince Alexei of his disease, hemophilia. Hope this helps. Thanks!

<span>On January 22, 1905 a non-violent march was led to Moscow to petition the Tsar for land reforms as well as an assembly elected by universal suffrage.
