When sea routes were discovered
The main way in which the nature of European exploration changed by the seventeenth century was that by this time, the major European powers such as Spain and Portugal had claimed large amounts of territory in the New World, and already exporting large amounts of natural resources back to their homeland.
Earth formed around 4.54 billion years ago by accretion from the solar nebula. Volcanic outgassing probably created the primordial atmosphere and then the ocean; but the atmosphere contained almost no oxygen and so would have been toxic to most modern life including humans. Much of the Earth was molten because of frequent collisions with other bodies which led to extreme volcanism. A "giant impact" collision with a planet-sized body is thought to have been responsible for forming the Moon. Over time, the Earth cooled, causing the formation of a solid crust, and allowing liquid water to exist on the surface.
Hope this helps. :)
Answer:
The maps are the 2 dimensional representation of the earth's surface. This maps are often used to show the earth's surface. But in order to do so, there occurs distortion while projecting on a map. Some of the properties of the map that gets distorted are as follows-
(1) Distance
(2) Direction
(3) Shape
(4) Area
These distortion occurs because earth is spherical in shape. So, while projecting it gets distorted in the polar and the equatorial region mostly, as the pole appears to be larger in size and shape. The direction is also affected.
Due to this reasons, the maps are not so accurate in showing the earths surface, in comparison to a globe.
