It is similar because with adding and subtracting with whole numbers because you could literally just add a decimal to the whole number. For instance if I'm adding 2 plus 3 it could also be expressed as 2.0 plus 3.0 which would have given you the same answer but just with a .0 at the end of it.

Don't forget, for a whole number like the first term, the decimal point lies just to the right of the ones column. ... To subtract these numbers, first arrange the terms vertically, aligning the decimal points in each term. You can add zeroes to the right of the decimal point, to make it easier to align the columns

Calculate the area, with the appropriate number of significant figures, of a rectangular room that is 14.10 m wide by 15.0 m lon
Paladinen [302]
<h3>Answer: Choice A) 212 square meters</h3>

========================================================

Explanation:

14.10 has four sig figs. The 0 at the end is significant. This measurement is accurate to the hundredths place. If the author wrote 14.1, then it would be accurate to the tenths place with three sig figs.

15.0 has three sig figs. The 0 is significant. If they wrote 15 or 15. then we'd be dealing with 2 sig figs instead; however they placed the 0 there to tell the reader "this measurement is accurate to the tenths place"

---------------------

Multiply the values given

14.10*15.0 = 211.5

Round that to three sig figs. We pick the smaller sig fig count to round to since we cannot be certain it is accurate to four sig figs. In a sense, we pick the weakest link and use that to determine rounding when it comes to multiplication and division.

This means 211.5 rounds to 212

0.4x-0.8-3x+0.5x-1.2
pashok25 [27]
If you would like to calculate 0.4 * x - 0.8 - 3 * x + 0.5 * x - 1.2, you can do this using the following steps:

0.4 * x - 0.8 - 3 * x + 0.5 * x - 1.2 = (0.4 * x - 3 * x + 0.5 * x) - 0.8 - 1.2 = - 2.1 * x - 2

The correct result would be - 2.1 * x - 2.
