A. A large naval blockade

The North used their navy to prevent ships from leaving the South to trade their cotton with European countries.

The South relied heavily on their trade with Great Britain and France. To cut off the South's economic supply, the North used their navy to block the trade ships. This cut the South off from potential allies in the war and prevented the South from earning money during the war. Eventually the South's trading partners find other sources of cotton hitting the Southern cotton industry even after the war ended.

What organization did workers form in the mid-to-late 1800s to improve pay and working conditions
harina [27]

Many workers got together to organize what we now know as unions during the late 1800s. Those Unions were meant to solve their problems related to working conditions such as low wages and unsafe working conditions to name a few. The workers created at first local unions in single factories. Eventually, those unions ended up using strikes to demand what they wanted from their employers: a raise to their wages for some. Sometimes it was all about their working conditions safer.
