On March 5, 1770, British officers fired on a horde of colonists in Boston. This  the episode, known as the Boston Massacre,  irritated American homesteaders. However John  Adams, future leader of the United  States and cousin of Boston Patriot-leader Sam Adams, wound up shielding a gathering  of loathed British officers at their trials.
