It is a fiction novel, which has a lot of learning for the readers because it has a very vivid description so that it transports readers back to 1900s in Brooklyn, New York (set in a very specific time and place). The first section genre is coming of age (this genre describes the growth of the protagonist from youth to adulthood). In the first section of the book, the author describes the main character's family drama. The main character is Francie Nolan a girl of 11 years old.
