Answer:

C) a term for a word's origin

Explanation:

The term etymology derives from a Greek word that means "the study of true sense or origin". Nowadays, it refers to the study of the origins of words (and each of its parts) and they way they have changed throughout history, in meaning and in form, while taking into account its transmission from one language to another.
