Examples of physical objects in a house that we take for granted are things like the light switch, a chair, and a door.

A chair because we don't realize how much we use and need a chair in our everyday life and in our homes-- it would be quite difficult to do homework on a computer without a chair, and having to either stand up the whole time or sitting on the ground, which hurts your bottom and back after a short period of time. Laying down hurts your back and arms when typing too.

A door because while we constantly have to lock and unlock our door on our way in and out, we take for granted how much protection and privacy a door provides. A door keeps out the intruders, bugs, animals, etc., out of our house, and also provides privacy because sometime we need some alone time and don't want to be bothered by anyone so we close the door behind us. We don't want people to see us when we're using the bathroom either.

A light switch because many of us forget that our electricity comes at a cost, which when we flip the light switch on, we only need it for that moment and get lazy when we truly don't need it there anymore. Sometimes we even forget when we're in a hurry to leave somewhere and don't turn off the lights to the living room (for example).

Which of these best illustrates a strong claim?
ch4aika [34]

D. It was right for the American colonists to declare independence because the British government did not support their interests.

This claim is the strongest because it answers a prompt at the beginning of the claim and also provides a reason for the answer.

A claim needs to answer a prompt and give a reason for the answer. In doing this, the writer provides the argument they are going to present in that paragraph. Evidence is then used to support the claim in an essay. When developing a full argumentative essay, at least two claims would be presented in the thesis statement.
