The coordinate plane is being used in a number of different ways.
It is used on maps to define longitude and latitude. This allows you to define any point on the map using two unique numbers. This is very important in navigation and it made navigation simpler.
It is also used to graph functions. This way we can understand them better, and easier. These are just a couple of implications.
Coordinate plane introduced by Descartes seems like something we take for granted today, but without it, the world would be a very different place.

A water wheel makes 28 revolutions in 90 seconds. how many revolutions can it make in 4 minutes?
ioda
90 seconds = 1.5 minutes
1.5 minutes = 28 revolutions
Revolutions in 1 minute = 28/1.5 = 18.67 revolutions

Revolutions in 4 minutes = 18.67*4
                                        = 74.7 (approx.) revolutions

Does the funtion satisfy the mean value theorem on the given interval? f(x)=e^-5x, [0,2]
brilliants [131]
Yes, because it is continuous on [0,2] and differentiable on (0,2), the theorem states that there must exist some value c where a line tangent to c is parallel to the secant line through 0 and 2.
