The Egyptians mummified the dead and put them in massive tombs with golds and riches because they believed that the body should be safe with different objects of the afterlife

The Egyptians would bury the rich with their wealth surrounding them. They believed that they could have their riches once again in the afterlife. Also, what material the sarcophagus was made out of showed how rich they were.
