In the story, it tells us that even though many Cyclopes live on the island, they don't have a community. They do not get together. The live separately not caring about the others. The text says, "Cyclopes have no muster and no meeting,no consultation or old tribal ways, but each one dwells in his own mountain cavedealing out rough justice to wife and child, indifferent to what the others do. . . ."<span />
It’s been a while, but here’s what I remember:
1. The whole town got ready for the lottery
2. Everyone had to pick a piece of paper out of the black box
3. A woman (I forgot her name) gets the paper with the dot on it
4. The town stones her to death
An indirect characterization could be that she is greedy, selfish, and impatient. We can see this in how she goes to the Devil to make a deal with him on her own, rather than waiting for her husband to do it. We can also see this in the fact the story says she keeps things from him, even though they're are married. This could show how she only desires things for herself and doesn't want to share. Hope this helps! :)
