Summarize what was the purpose of the homestead act
Grace [21]

Answer:

The Homestead Act was a law passed by Congress in 1862 that granted 160 acres of federal land to any U.S. citizen. An individual was given ownership of the land for free if that person lived on the land for five years and improved the land by building a home and producing a crop. The 1862 Homestead Act accelerated settlement of U.S. western territory by allowing any American, including freed slaves, to put in a claim for up to 160 free acres of federal land.

How did industrialization transform America after the Civil War?
qaws [65]

Answer:

The most important change in the US economy after the Civil War was the transformation from an agricultural society into an industrial society. Factors to be taken into account are: a large pool of labor thanks to constant immigration from abroad; access to massive amounts of raw materials such as timber, iron ore, oil; new inventions and technological advances; and the transcontinental rairoad that connected the East and the West coasts, facilitated the movement of items and people throughout the American terrritory. Growing urbanization and better living standards in cities are a result of industrialization.

How might the cold war have progressed if the u-2 incident had never occurred?
zvonat [6]
Without U-2, Eisenhower would have met with Kruschev, and they might have come to a positive resolution on the issue of Cuba.

With Cuba resolved, Eisenhower would not have needed to launch the Bay of Pigs invasion; Castro bringing in missiles was a direct reaction to the Bay of Pigs. No Bay of Pigs, no Cuban Missile Crisis.

Without the Cuban Missile Crisis, tensions between the US and USSR would have been reduced. Still there obviously, but reduced. It is likely Kennedy could have come to an agreement to significantly slow, if not end, the arms race with the USSR.

And if Cuba and nuclear weapons were on a lower simmer, the US might have been less likely to stay in Vietnam. Both Yarmolinsky and McNamara had misgivings as early as 1963 about Vietnam. If the Cold War was cooler, they might have been able to keep that fire out.

It's possible the Cold War could have taken an entirely different turn if not for one airplane being shot down.
