You are suppose to find the lateral surface area, since the label only go around the can, excluding the top and bottom.
To find the lateral surface area, you'd need to find the circumference of the circle, and then multiply that by the height.
Since C = πd, 3.14..*3 ≈ 9.42. And 9.42*6 = 56.52. Conclusively, the approximate amount of paper needed to make the can's label would be about 56.52 inches squared.
