Answer: It lead to ideas being spread

Explanation: Before the invention of the movable type for a printing press, books and pamphlets had to be copied by hand. Obviously this was very expensive so there were very few copies of anything written. Can you imagine learning to read if you never see anything in writing?

The printing press made books and other written materials affordable. More people learned to read. And of course, ideas spread much faster than they did by word of mouth.
