Why is farming the occupation of so many of India's people​

I think that one reason why it's so popular to farm is the climate. In India it can rain a lot, so it's good for crops, even though sometimes it rains too much. It's also possible that there is a lack of modern job opportunities, so people might just resort to a job in agriculture.
