A function is a specific type of relation in which each input value has one and only one output value . An input is the independent value, and the output value is the dependent value because it depends on the value of the input.
Correspondence between a name and a family name does not define a function.
Because there can be many output in a single input.
For example: Input Output Name Family Name Jennifer Lopez Lawrence Hudson == as you can see, there are many outputs in a single input. It is not a function.

An example of a function is:
Name of President Name of Country Barack Obama USA
- only one country corresponds to that name of the president.
However, if we interchange it. It will not be a function because there are a lot of names of presidents in the country USA.
