In fact, it's very easy to do as a creative artist. Painters get attached to their works on canvas, musicians get attached to their songs and many writers get attached to their words. For writers, this attachment is one of the reasons why editors exist. Coming from an objective place, they aren't likely to try and preserve your work over their greater interests, which usually lie on the business end of the scale.
