Darwin waited to publish <em>On the Origin of Species</em> for twenty years because he was cautious of the public opinion, political climate that went together with the religion and lack of some more evidence. Also, he was afraid of the reaction of the scientific community as his thoughts were quite revolutionary. The answer is political climate because in the 18th century in Victorian England politics were dependent on religion and the Church`s opinion. Darwin knew that his work would create a lot of controversy and a society still was not ready for the fact that there were no real dividing line between a human being and an animal. His theory presented that in wasn`t God who created the world, but evolution and simply time. It went against public`s opinion and the Church.
