Answer: B) established a rhythm and required cooperation.

Enslaved laborers did not have much leisure time in order to have hobbies, or meet various different people. Their social circle was reduced to the people they worked with, and their hobbies were those that did not take them away from their work. Call-and-response songs were the perfect distraction and enjoyment for their difficult lives. The fact that the songs are rhythmic and repetitive meant that they could serve as motivation for a repetitive job, such as picking cotton. Moreover, the fact that they required cooperation contributed to their sense of community.

B) established a rhythm and required cooperation. All of the other answer choices don't really fit like this because why else would those songs help them?

To whom is Roger Chillingworth compared in Chapter 9 of The Scarlet Letter? A. An angel B. God C. A saint D. The Devil
Virty [35]
I believe the answer would be C. A Saint.
From the book "The Scarlet Letter"
This learned stranger was exemplary, as regarded at least the outward forms of a religious life, and, early after his arrival, had chosen for his spiritual guide the Reverend Mr.Dimmesdale. The young divine, whose scholar-like renown still lived in Oxford, was considered by his more fervent admirers as little less as a heaven-ordained apostle, destined, should he live and labor for the ordinary term of life, to do as great deeds for the now feeble New England Church, as the early Fathers had achieved for the infancy of the Christian faith.
