The birth of the Chilean rodeo dates back to the 16th century during the tenure of Governor García Hurtado de Mendoza, 20 a cavalry officer trained in training and games of dexterity. He was also a great admirer of Moorish equestrian art.21 In those years the cattle in Chile were not well identified and were very common to be lost. So that this did not happen, the governor ordered that every July 24 and 25, the feast of the Apostle Santiago, the patron of the city, gathered the cattle in what is now the Plaza de Armas de Santiago to be marked and selected . Later this rodeo became obligatory, but the date was changed for October 7, the day of San Marcos.
