PART B: Which phrase provides the best clue to the meaning of the word “thwart”?
Eva8 [605]

Answer:

To hinder, impede or frustrate someone from achieving a set goal.

Explanation:

Thwart could either be a noun or a verb, the context determines its part of speech when used in a sentence. As a verb, it depicts that a desire could not be realized because it was frustrated by someone or something.

For example:

i. She did all she could to thwart his plans.

This simply means that she after all successfully impeded him from accomplishing his plans.

ii. Paul's aim to achieve a B in his English test was thwarted by his friend.

This makes us to understand that Paul's friend affected his plans to make a B grade in the test.

Both the Hopi and the Navajo came from what is now the American southwest yet they had different lifestyles. Explain how the lif
lisov135 [29]

Answer:

The Hopi were more settled in villages and the Navajo were more nomadic in terms of lifestyle.

Explanation:

The Hopi are a Native American people who primarily live on the Hopi Reservation today in northeastern Arizona. In the past, the Hopi had encountered Spaniards as early as the 16th century, who referred to them at the Pueblo people because they lived in villages (pueblo means village in Spanish). They dedicated themselves to farming squash, corn, and other cultivates.  The Hopi people had settled in permanent villages, while the more nomadic Navajo people moved around and only settled in temporary camps. The Navajo also herded sheep in addition to agriculture. Their languages are also different. The Hopi language seems derived from the Aztec language, whereas linguistically the Navajo have more similarities to Canadian and Alaskan groups.
