Personification is a <em>figure of speech</em> in which a thing - an idea or an animal - is given human attributes. They are described in human terms. In the sentence "<em>The flowers danced in the gentle breeze"</em> we are giving the flowers abilities to dance, which is a human quality. In this example we can say that the flowers were personified.
