1 - Explanation:

Stephen King has or tries to have a deep understanding of what writing really means, and since he is a horror and science-fiction writer, understanding what writing horror acutally means is probably very important to him.

According to him, writing horror and science-fiction was a way of temporarily freeing the imagination, because when writing a horror/science-ficiton you can be yourself, by letting your mind being who you are.

My opinion: If you were to ask him how to get to know somebody, he would probably say, "show me a horror book of yours, and I'll tell you who you are".

1 - Answer:

D. / 4 - To temporarily free the imagination.

2 - Explanation:

Even being a science-ficiton writer, King believed in verisimilitude, and therefore, he thought that making things look, even if only a tiny bit, real, the purpose of a horror story would be achieved.

2 - Answer:

B. / 2 - By making the portait eerily lifelike.

Hope it hlped,
