It had little to do with slavery or race. The only time when it showed abolitionism is near the end of the story, everything else is mainly about women and their roles in society.

When Frances Ellen Watkins Harper's "The Two Offers" was published in 1859 she had officially settled herself as a mainstream and all around regarded artist, speaker, and lobbyist. During this period a large portion of her distributed works based on her abolitionist endeavors. Harper composed as a black woman about the situation of the black community.
