A stereo system is being installed in a room with a rectangular floor measuring 15 feet by 11 feet and a 10-foot ceiling. The s

tereo amplifier is on the floor in one corner of the room. A speaker is at the ceiling in the opposite corner of the room. You must run a wire from the amplifier to the speaker, and the wire must run along the floor or walls. What is the shortest length of wire you can use for the connection?

Answer:

Shortest length of wire = 28.60 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Distances In Rectangular Objects </u>

If we want to go from one point in space to another one, the shortest possible distance is through a line. But if we are not allowed to, we must try to use as many direct paths as possible to minimize the distance.

In our case, the minimum distance will be going right from one corner to the other through the air, but we must use walls and floor. So our choices are limited to shorten the distance as much as possible by taking paths from corners whenever it's possible.

Starting from the corner where the stereo system is located, we must try to reach the other corner by using one of these options

  • Cross the floor by its diagonal and then go right to the other corner in the ceiling
  • Cross one wall by its diagonal and then go to the other corner. It can be done for each adjacent wall to the stereo system.

If we try the first option first, the diagonal of the floor measures

\displaystyle \sqrt{15^2+11^2}

And now we reach the other corner, traveling a total distance of

\displaystyle L_1\sqrt{15^2+11^2}+10

\displaystyle L_1=28.60\ {ft}

Trying one of the adjacent walls

\displaystyle L_2=\sqrt{15^2+10^2}+11

\displaystyle L_2=29.028\ feet

And the final option is

\displaystyle L_3=\sqrt{10^2+11^2}+15\ feet

\displaystyle L_3=29,87\ feet

We can see the first is the shortest distance, so to reach the speaker we must cross the floor by its diagonal and the go up to the speaker

Note: Each of the options analyzed have a identical counterpart by taking the opposite side first. For example, the path floor-wall could have been done as wall-ceiling, with identical results

The face of a clock has a circumference of 63 in. What is the area of the face of the clock?
ryzh [129]

Answer:

The area of the clock = 315.41\ inch^{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

We have been given the face of the clock that is 63\ in

So that is also the circumference of the clock.

Since the clock is circular in shape.

So 2\pi(r)=63\ inch

From here we will calculate the value of radius (r) of the clock that is circular in shape.

Then 2\pi(r)=63\ inch =\frac{63}{2\pi} = 10.02\ in

Now to find the area of the clock we will put this value of (r) in the equation of area of the circle.

Now \pi (r)^{2}=\pi(10.02)^{2}=315.41\ in^{2}

So the area of the face of the clock =315.41\ in^{2}

HELP ASAP! A plumber charges $110 per hour. If h represents the number of hours that he works, which domain values are relevant
Sedbober [7]

First you need to figure out how many hours he has been working for you, lets say h = 1 then you answer would be both A and B, if it is h = 2 then your answer is C, B, A, and maybe D (Because I am not really sure what D means)

Consider the linear function f(x)=4x -5.<br> Find f(3), f(0), f(-2).
nika2105 [10]

Answer: f(3)= 7, f(0)= -5, f(-2)= -13

Step-by-step explanation:

Substitute and plug in.

For f(3), we plug in 3 for x in the equation.

So, 4(3)-5, which is just 12-5, which is 7

We do the same for f(0),

4(0)-5, which is 0-5, which is -5

Once again for f(-2),

4(-2)-5, which is -8-5, which is -13

Hope this helps!

The volume of a cylinder varies jointly with the square of its radius and with its height: V=kr^(2)h Cylinder A has a volume of
Brrunno [24]
We have the following equation:
 V = kr ^ (2) h
 For cylinder A we have:
 251.2 = k * ((4) ^ (2)) * (5)
 Let's clear k:
 k = 251.2 / (((4) ^ (2)) * (5))
 k = 3.14
 For cylinder B we have:
 V = 3.14 * ((3) ^ (2)) * (9)
 V = 254.34 in ^ 3
 Answer:
 the volume of cylinder B is:
 V = 254.34 in ^ 3
