Add 10 both sides
(x-4)^2=25
sqrt both sides
remember to take positive and negative roots
x-4=+/-5
add 4
x=4+/-5

it is because the square  of z is the same as the square of -z for example

it is becasue of of the property of squareing numbers

Let's solve it first, so that we can understand whats going on in the equation

(x-4)²-10=15
add 10 to both sides
(x-4)²=25
square root both sides

(Okay, so here is where the problem can have 2 solutions. Because the square root of 25 could be (5*5) or it could be (-5*-5). If it's positive five then...

x-4=5
add 4 to both sides
x=9

if it's negative 5 then...

x-4=-5
add 4 to both sides
x=-1

So the answer could be x=-1 or x=9.

It has two solutions because there are two possibilities for the answer to the square root of 25.

The hourly wage increase each employee receives each year depends on their number of years of service. Every three years of service means an increase of $0.50 per hour. So, employees that have been with the company for less than three years can expect to receive an increase of $0.50 per hour. Employees that have been with the company for at least three years, but less than six years can expect an increase of $1.00 per hour. Employees that have been with the company for at six years, but less than nine years, receive an increase of $1.50 per hour. And, employees of at least nine years, but less than twelve years receive an increase of $2.00 per hour.

Machine A:

60 / 10 = 6 - 10 minute segments per hour

7 x 6 = 42 - parts per hour

42 x 12 = 504 - parts made on Monday

Machine B:

60 / 15 = 4 - 15 minute segments per hour

16 x 4 = 64 - parts per hour

64 x 10 = 640 - parts made on Monday

504 + 640 = 1144 - parts made by the two machines on Monday

Hope this helps!! :)
