Answer:

1. Jumping rope can help tone your muscles.

2.The icy blast told us winter was here.

3. Don't waste your money on a shirt you'll only wear once.

4. The tone of the book was very sad

I'm not to sure about 6 and 8 for this section, so I apologize if they are wrong.

5. Blasting

6. Waste

7. Toned

8. Vanitied

Explanation:

English has lots of words with more than one meaning. These words are called multiple-meaning words or homonyms (<em>prefix homo- meaning same</em>).

For example, the word "bark" refers to both tree bark and the bark of a dog.

A good way to find what definition a word uses is to look at how a word is used compared to which of the definitions fits the word correctly.

Which sentence from the paragraph is an example of a smile?
lyudmila [28]
I assume you mean a simile. A simile is a comparison made by using the words like or as: "Her hair was as gold as a lion's mane", "His beard was like tiny wires brushing her skin."

When asking a question, it's good to provide as much information as possible. If you can provide the paragraph in question, I can edit the answer to address your specific question.

What is the difference between egomania and megalomania?
torisob [31]
Egomania is basically intolerably self-centred. In a more technical sense, it's an obsession -- an obsessive preoccupation with one's own self, usually in the form of following own impulses and have delusions of grandeur.

Megalomania is a rather loose term, and usually means have delusional fantasies of omnipotence (having unlimited or very great power, whatever 'power' might mean to that person). Interestingly, megalomania was the standard term for narcissistic personality disorder before the 1960s (so far as I recall from my psychology degree over 30 years ago).
