According to the Demographic transition model the development of a country is directly connected to the population growth or decline.

Explanation:

There are five stages of the Demographic transition model:

  • High stationary
  • Early expanding
  • Late expending
  • Low stationary
  • Declining

All of these five stages of demographic transition correspond to a certain degree of development. The high stationary stage has high birthrates and high death rates, being typical for the least developed nations. The early expending stage is typical for the developing countries, where the living conditions start to improve, so the birthrates are high, while the death rates decrease. The late expanding stage corresponds to the societies that are industrialized, where the living conditions have improved significantly, birthrates are high, death rates have decreased significantly.

The low stationary stage is typical for a developed society, where the people have high living standard and commit more to their careers, the birthrates are decreasing, while the death rates are low. The declining stage is typical for the post industrial nations, where the birthrates are very low, and the population is aging, the birthrates are very low, as well as the death rates.
