Lyric poems often express intense feelings. pairs of lines in "Lift Every Voice and Sing" by James Weldon, which express hope is,

"Facing the rising sun of our new day begun

Let us march on till victory is won."

The metaphor used for hope here is the use of an image of <em>"rising sun"</em>. The speaker of the poem invokes that the<em> "new day"</em> of brightness will arrive through the struggles of freedom. The rising sun refers to the new day and new hopes with the new beginning. Since the sun is beautiful and bright, therefore through the image of the sun the speaker looks forward to the future to be bright and beautiful.
