Absolute value is the distance between a certain number and 0 on a number line; this means it cannot be negative.

All you need to do is perform the operations inside the absolute value bars , ignoring the negatives...

So, for a) just do 20 + 5.3 = 25.3

now for c and d where the negative is outside of the absolute value bars, that negative will stay with your answer

So, for c) 8 + 81 = 89 but since there is a negative sign outside the absolute value bars, and you keep it with your answer, it would be -89

Lisa brought half of her savings to the bakery and bought 12 croissants for $14.20. The amount of money she brings home with her
liraira [26]

Answer:

Before going to the bakery, Lisa had more than $32.40.

Step-by-step explanation:

Hi there!

Let x be Lisa´s savings.

She brings half of her savings to the bakery and expends $14.20. What is left is more than $2.00. Then:

x/2 - 14.2 > 2

Let´s solve the inequality:

x/2 - 14.2 > 2

Add 14.2 to both sides of the inequality.

x/2 > 2 + 14.2

x/2 > 16.2

Multiply by 2 both sides of the inequality.

x > 32.4

Before going to the bakery, Lisa had more than $32.40.

Huey works 175 hours each month and earns $14.25 per hour after taxes. His monthly budget is shown. How much money is left over
steposvetlana [31]
For this case we have the following equation:
 y = 14.25x
 Where,
 x: number of hours
 y: total salary
 For x = 175 we have:
 y = 14.25 * (175)
 y = 2493.75
 The amount of money for unexpected expenses is:
 unplanned expenses = 2493.75 - 1250 - 200 - 350 - 400 - 225 - 300
 unplanned expenses = -231.25 <0
 We note that there is no money left for unexpected expenses
 Answer:

there is nothing left over
