Roosevelt's first Fireside Chat, which he gave in March of 1933, reached half a million listeners and it was a success, as proven by the many letters that arrived to the White House expressing appreciation and thankfulness to the President's intimate, reassuring and comforting words. This first address informed the audience about the measures that the government was going to take in order to solve the banking crisis of 1933.
