The main reason why New Imperialism led to non-Westerners being robbed of their cultural heritage was because of the ideas of racial superiority that imperialist powers supported during those years. These were backed by Social Darwinism, which stated that humans existed at different levels of evolution. This led Europeans to think of themselves as the most advanced people, and as capable of educating and improving non-Westerners.
