glucose is broken down by oxygen to release energy with carbon dioxide and water being produced as by-products of the reaction. ... The released energy is used to make a special energy molecule called Adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

Oxygen is the final "link" in the electron transport chain because it has the highest electronegativity and affinity for electrons. This final link is key because it allows the NADH and FADH₂'s to dump their electrons and return to being NAD+ so they can pick up electrons in glycolysis and the citric acid cycle. Without oxygen, the system becomes backed up and the electron transport chain can not produce ATP (which accounts for 34 of 38 of them from a single glucose molecule).

How muscles are able to contract and relax to bring about movements?
Len [333]

There are small individual fibres in the muscles, known as musclular fibres or muscle fibers that iat the same time are formed by myofibrils.

The most common and accepted theory of how muscles contract is the sliding filament theory:

The theory says that neurons send signals to the muscle fibres, and, inside these, actin and myosin bind with each-other, contracting themselves using ATP as an energy source. That is a simple way of describing how muscle contraction occurs.

The image down below may help you understand the sliding filament concept a bit better.

Hope it helped,

In a certain plant, tall stems (t) are dominant to short stems (t). a farmer crosses a short-stemmed plant with a heterozygous l
melisa1 [442]

The answers would be:

Genotype Phenotype

     Tt Tall stemmed

     tt Short stemmed

Genotypic ratio : 2:2 or 1:1

Phenotypic ratio: 2:2 or 1:1

You can read on to see how this was done:

Tall stems (T) are dominant to short stems (t).

First figure out the genotypes of the parents. We have a short-stemmed plant and a heterozygous long-stemmed plant cross.

For short stem to occur, you need 2 pairs of short alleles. So the first parent would have a genotype of tt.

Heterozygous long-stemmed means that the parent has one of each allele. So the genotype of the second parent would be, Tt.

Now we can make our Punnett Square.

tt x Tt

       t t

T | Tt | Tt

t | tt | tt

Let's list down the genotypes and phenotypic results.

Genotype no. Phenotype

     Tt 2 Tall stemmed

     tt 2 Short stemmed

So from that we can answer the other questions:

Genotypic ratio : 2:2 or 1:1

Phenotypic ratio: 2:2 or 1:1
