The lamppost and Tad create similar right triangles. Set up a proportion comparing their equivalent sides.

\frac{lamppost height}{lamppost shadow}= \frac{tad height}{tad shadow}

\frac{x}{24} = \frac{6}{15}

Crossmultiply to solve.

24*6 = 15*x

144 = 15x

x = 9.6 feet

What is a percentage? What do we do with percentages?
Marianna [84]

Answer:

percentages are used like fractions and decimals, as ways to describe parts of a whole. For example, discounts in shops, bank interest rates, rates of inflation and many statistics in the media are expressed as percentages. Percentages are important for understanding the financial aspects of everyday life. When you are using percentages, the whole is considered to be made up of a hundred equal parts. The symbol % is used to show that a number is a percentage, and less commonly the abbreviation 'pct' may be used.

Larry bought 2⁄3 pound of red potatoes and 3⁄4 pound of golden potatoes. How many pounds of potatoes did he buy in all?
Xelga [282]

Common denominator between 3 and 4 is 12. 2/3 becomes 8/12, and 3/4 becomes 9/12. Add them to get 17/12, which equals 1 and 5/12 lbs.
