Brakes/Brake Fluid: The reason for checking this is because the brakes are going to help you stop your vehicle.

Tires: You need to check whether or not your tires are flat, punctured or loose. If they are any of those then it could cause you trouble either while driving or at rest.

Suspensions: This is necessary because it helps your car to smoothly jump when you cross a bump. This helps your car to be in control.

Engine: For obvious reasons such as the performance of your car.

Oil: This includes your engine oil, brake oil etc.

Transmission oil, radiator, steering oil are some of the other necessary things you need to look out for.
