We use the subjunctive to express desires, doubts, the unknown, the abstract, and emotions. Subjunctive sentences often have parts linked by a relative pronoun (que, quien, como). Since in this sentence we use the relative pronoun que, then the subjunctive mood is needed. Finally, the sentence <em>quiere que le des la maleta </em>means <em>he (or she) wants you to give him (or her) the suitcase</em>
