Brutus felt it was better if their troops met Anthony and Octavius at Phillipi since the people in the middle of where they currently were and Phillipi may not be trusted to be loyal. He felt a show of force would be better. Therefore he decided to take the battle there

Brutus won the argument and they were defeated in Phillipi.
