Humans interact with the environment on a daily basis in Maryland in many ways. Some common ways that humans interact with the environment in Maryland are farming, fishing, environmentalism work, hiking, biking, and also even flipping the switch of their electricity. To produce the electricity the energy must be produced through some interaction with the environment such as the burning of fossil fuels, solar energy, or wind energy.

Sinkholes are formed when the land surface above collapses or sinks into the cavities or when surface material is carried downward into the voids. Drought, along with resulting high groundwater withdrawals, can make conditions favorable for sinkholes to form.
