Answer: Before the Berlin Conference, there were 2 main territories controlled by European powers, those being:

  • The Congo Free State.
  • Cape Colony.

The rest of the territories (about 80% of it) were controlled by Africa´s native tribes.

Some of the biggest independent territories were Soudan, Algeria and Egypt.
