What does the fire symbolize in this section of Lord of the Flies?

Answer:

In the novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding as many symbols to show the hidden meaning of situations or objects. In chapter 2 the boys on the island decide to make a signal fire which later goes out of control. The statement “Won’t we look funny if the whole island burns up?” (Golding 45) which foreshadows the end of the story. The fire represents the civilization in the boy’s society because they are all still trying to find a way to get home. The uncontrollable fire would also represent the absolute disorganization of the society the boys created on the island.
