A meeting held among all the delegates from all the American colonies at the period of Revolutionary war is called the Continental Congress. Since the first continental congress was not as successful as expected, a second continental congress happened in the year 1775.

The following are its accomplishments:

  1. The continental army was formed with George Washington as the General of the army, on 14th June 1775.
  2. An attempt for the peace treaty was made with the King of Britain by sending an Olive Branch Petition on 8th July 1775.
  3. Independence of the United States from Britain has been declared on 4th July 1776.
  4. An official United states flag was passed on 14th June 1777.

By signing the articles of the confederation on 1st March 1781, a real government was formed and congress is renamed as  Congress of the Confederation.
