Answer: His teachings are summarized as the Four Noble Truths:

1)Suffering is always with us through birth, old age, sickness, death, and despair.

2)The cause of pain is due to desire that is wrongly directed.

3)Remove the wrong desire and the cause of the suffering is removed.

4)The truth of the way called the Middle Path leads to the end of suffering.

Explanation: A prince named Gautama Buddha lived in approximately 500 B.C. According to tradition, he was a happily married aristocrat when, one day, he was struck by the misery of the poor. He became an ascetic and dwelt in a forest for seven years. During that time, he fasted and tortured himself. His insights during that time evolved into a philosophy that has had widespread supporters for more than 2,000 years. The Buddha became a wandering preacher among the villages.

The main of Buddha's teachings were the Four noble truths: First that human life brings suffering. Second, that suffering is linked to desire. Third that Suffering can be avoided if one abandons desires. Forth truth was that the abandonment of desire can happen if one follows that  Noble Eightfold Path, another famous teaching of Buddha.
