Answer:

The answer is Option C. a German Company.

Explanation:

It is surprising that the largest publisher of English language books in the world is actually a German company.  The German company is Bertelsmann and it can claim to be the largest publisher of English language books because it owns Penguin Random House. Random House was originally an American publishing company founded in 1927 but it was acquired by Bertelsmann AG in 1998.  Penguin was a British company that was also acquired by the German conglomerate in 2013.  It is estimated that sixty percent of English-language books are published through the "Big Five" corporate publishing houses: Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Hachette, and Macmillan.

A student wrote the following sentence:
arlik [135]

Answer: The replacement word that would best clarify the meaning of "self-respect" is <u>B. confidence</u>.

Explanation: The word "self-respect" is a noun used to refer to the feeling of pride that a person has in himself/herself. In that way, <u>"self-respect" is similar to the word "confidence", which can be defined as the feeling of trust in oneself's abilities or powers</u>. However,<u> "confidence" is more specific and adds clarity</u> to the meaning of "self-respect". In contrast, the words "anger", "honesty" and "passion" are not closely related to "self-respect".

Explain both the literal and symbolic meaning and importance of pouring poison in a person’s ear in Hamlet.
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]

In Act I Scene 5 lines 59-54, the ghost of King Hamlet tells his son that his uncle was the one that murdered him by pouring poison in his ear.

The literal meaning of this is that <u>Claudius poison his brother and King Hamlet. The poison was introduced to his body through his ear.</u> This is very interesting, especially because usually poison is given to a person in a drink, but Shakespeare was trying to say something beyond with this.

The symbolic meaning of this is connected with the fact that<u> words</u> (which we listen and enter our ears) <u>can also be like poison and they can actually kill us</u>. In fact, this is what happens to Prince Hamlet, the words uttered by the ghost of his father end up working like poison, they will force him to find revenge to the point in which he will find his own death.
