In this case the variable that changes is the speed, the distance remains constant and is the incoginite , but FIRST, we must known the time he has been traveling.

then for the first case

Distance = 60mph x time

and for the second case

Distance = 50mph x (time + 40mintues)

40 minutes= 0,67 hours

matching the two equations

Distance = Distance

60mph x time = 50mph x (time + 0,67hours)

60mphTime = 50mphTIme + 33,5mph

10mphTime = 33,5mph

Time = 33,5mph / 10mph

Time = 3,35 hours

In the first equation

DIstance = 60mph x 3,35 hours

Distance = 201 miles

in equation 2

Distance = 50mph x (3,35 hours + 0,67hours)

Distance = 201miles
