Gandhi's Philosophy of non violent protest was the boycott of British goods. He decided and encouraged the people to make their own salt rather than using the British goods.

British goods has an additional tax involved and hence to protest against the British non violently was his philosophy. They did march to the sea and made their own salt with the sea water and also encouraged the people to yarn their own clothes. He promoted khadi.
