The figurative language used in the passage is metaphor.The figuaritive language contributs to the meaning of the passage because Michelangelo has a feeling in his get which is metaphorical. It helps clarify my understanding of the passage because it tells me that Michelangelo has a feeling that he will succeed and he feels like he did good.

Explanation:

This is what I think the figurative language is, but I know the rest is right.

It's a metaphor because he had a metaphorical feeling in his gut that he will succeed and you can't get that feeling in your gut. It's trying to tell you that he feels lucky and that he feels like he succeeded.
