The four major types of essays address these purposes:

Narrative Essays: Telling a Story. In a narrative essay, the writer tells a story about a real-life experience.

Descriptive Essays: Painting a Picture.

Expository Essays: Just the Facts.

Persuasive Essays: Convince Me.
