Napoleon affected Latin America by chasing Portugal's Prince Regent John to Brazil which then made Brazil the center of the Portuguese Empire. Napoleon then turned on Spain and captured their rulers creating a power vacuum in Latin American Spanish colonies and in Spain.
The 5 states added as result of the northwest ordinance of 1787 were ohio, indiana, illinois, Michigan, and Wisconson. Also a portion of Minnesota later became a state.
