The Hawaiian Islands formed over a stationary hot spot. This means that hot molten magma from deep within the mantle erupted ont

o the surface of the ocean floor, forming an underwater volcano, or seamount. As the volcano continued to grow, it eventually emerged above sea level, forming an island arc. The first island to form over the hot spot was Kauai Island. The island sits at the northernmost section along the chain, is now an extinct volcano, and contains the oldest rocks of the Hawaiian Islands. Maui is also an extinct volcano. It has much younger rocks than Kauai but older than the Big Island. Hawai'i is the southernmost island, has active volcanoes, and contains the youngest rocks of all the islands. By understanding that the Hawaiian Islands formed over a stationary hot spot, the youngest rocks are found on the actively-erupting Hawai'i island, and that rocks become progressively older as you move northwest helps support what theory?

The correct answer is - plate tectonics theory.

The Hawaiian Islands are all formed as a result of volcanic activity of a hot spot. The hot spot is stationary, but the islands are in the shape of a chain, not all in the same place. Also, the rocks on the islands that do not have active volcanoes are older, than the ones that do have volcanic activity. This suggests that the Pacific plate is moving. According the direction in which the islands are arranged, the Pacific plate seems to move toward northwest. As it moves, it moves over the hot spot. Since the hot spot is stationary, as the Pacific plate moves, eventually the volcanic activity will stop on the island that has moved further away from the hot spot. On the other hand, new volcanic island will emerge from the sea over the hot spot. The process goes on for millions of years, and it can result in hundreds of islands of volcanic origin.

If the regions of the Caribbean, Central America, and South America were colonized and developed about
bija089 [108]

Answer:

They were colonized by different countries. Mainly Spain, France and Portugal.

Explanation:

The reason for the large differences in demographics has to do with the fact that there were different countries that colonized the various regions.

Spain originally colonized the Caribbean,Central America and many parts of South America while Portugal colonized what is now known as Brazil.

Eventually France became involved and had control of the Caribbean and Central America for a while.

This is why there is some French and some Spanish spoken in the islands. Central America and the majority of South America still speak Spanish.

Other factors in the demographics include the native inhabitants of the regions and their appearance along with the slaves brought from countries outside of those regions.

Recent research now suggests, however, that most likely the Americas was settled by several colonists who came at different times, perhaps by different routes, and had different physiques and genetic markers, which continue to be discovered and debated.

Answer: Option E

Explanation:

Although the first settlers of the Americas were considered to be Clovis people recent researches direct that several colonists who arrived at different times probably via different roots with variations in their physical and genetic characteristics have initiated the settlement of Americas.

The 1950's hypothesis referred from the “Clovis first theory” which explains the earliest existence of humans in the Americas from Clovis culture. Paleolithic hunter-gatherers escaped from the North Asian region and entered North America; nearly 10,000 years ago the people of the Americas were named Paleo-Indians.

The grace period is the _____. maximum amount of money you can charge on the credit card time before the credit card company sta
xz_007 [3.2K]

Answer:

period of time before the credit card company starts charging interest

Explanation:

The grace period is the period of time before the credit card company starts charging interest.

Let's say the billing cycle on your credit card goes from the 17th of May to the 17 of June. Starting May 18, you enter a new cycle... and you can charge any amount of purchases (respecting your limit of course) and not pay a single cent in interest if you pay your bill in full and on time on the 17 of June. That's the smart way to use a credit card... to extent the period you have to pay your purchases.
